I have been experimenting with casein lately. Some of these characters are made up, some are inspired by mugshots found on the world wide web.

Well intentioned people are always giving me old house paint thinking I can use it in my classroom. They are mostly wrong. If it's not white or something close to white that I can use for primer, it is pretty much useless. I can use the lids though. I'm not sure why I started painting on these but I like them.

This is the biggest one so far. I ran out of actual black and white acrylic paint in my classroom so this is done partially with latex house paint.

Creepy Pan's Labyrinth character

A student of mine asked me to do a painting demo of this guy. Pan's Labyrinth has some really great creature design. 8x10 oil on linen.

I am keeping these as simple as I can. Painting in gray scale with a splash of bright color. They are all based on photographs but I am editing them heavily. I am really trying to focus in on the action and cut out distracting details. My students are in love with details. I am trying to show them another way.

I'm going to do a whole series of painting based on images from the Greek financial riots. I did this one as a painting demo in my classroom and it was very popular with the kids!
